© Reuters. U.K. shares lower at close of trade; United Kingdom 100 down 0.33% – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Tobacco and Insurance sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the FTSE 100 declined 0.27%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 3.46% or 46.00 points to trade at 1,377.00 at the close. Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) added 2.25% or 1.52 points to end at 69.00 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was up 1.77% or 9.00 points to 517.20 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which lost 4.19% or 62.50 points to trade at 1,429.00 in late trade. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) declined 4.03% or 31.80 points to end at 757.20 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) shed 2.95% or 32.50 points to 1,068.00.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 985 to 664 and 480 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.30% or 6.05 to $2,053.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.39% or 1.03 to hit $73.19 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.32% or 1.05 to trade at $78.65 a barrel.

GBP/USD was unchanged 0.27% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.15% to 0.87.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.44% at 101.59.
